Description:

Vision

The vision of John Moynahan UDP is to create better cities.  We aspire to create places that are lively, safe, sustainable, healthy and diverse—and thereby improve people’s quality of life.  We create three-dimensional urban space with an understanding of the role building form and streetscape character plays in the creation of human-scale and environmentally aware communities.  We believe that the human scale must be included in the planning process and well looked after…that our cities should be inviting, and open up to include people, having humane and efficient scale and operations.

What We Do for All Places

  • Illustration of urban design features; from overall plan diagrams to perspective renderings of specific locations in a plan.  These images easily communicate complex ideas to a varied audience.
  • Show how analysis of existing conditions leads to the formation of sound development objectives.
  • Clearly identify alternate solutions to conventional development patterns.
  • Provide pragmatic planning that is coupled to the area’s economic and environmental condition.
  • Provide appropriate changes to development regulations ranging from existing code modification to replacement by Smart Code.
  • Detailed urban design at the scale of the building, block, street, hamlet, and neighborhood.
  • Participatory process: The facilitation of project design and implementation through the multi-day public charrette process as outlined by the National Charrette Institute (NCI).
  • Transit Oriented Development (TOD).
  • Development that is sensitive to its environment and watershed by utilizing appropriate stormwater practices.
  • Development that is sensitive to the area’s cultural and built history, as well as realistic to market.
